Guess who can ride a bike?!?!

No, not me…well I can, but I’d rather rollerblade…

It may seem small to some, but to me it is a big deal.

My son is 9 years old and did not have a bike. He also did not CARE to ride a bike. Until recently.

When he was younger he fell off his bike with training wheels. It was bad and I honestly thought he had broken his leg. Thankfully, he did not. However, he had no real desire to get back on his bike. I did not push it either. A couple of months after that though, we were given a balance bike for a review. He enjoyed it for a couple of months and then he outgrew it. We passed it along to friends with a little one who could get more use out of it.

P has always been more into his scooter and then after Christmas, his skateboard. Again, I never pushed the bike. A couple of weeks ago, he started showing an interest when his cousins ( who are younger) learned to ride without training wheels.

Buying a bike is not something we have thought about doing or have saved for. However, I recently did a photoshoot and was saving for a new lens for my camera. I simply saw the desire for a bike in my child’s eyes and decided I would use that money to buy him a bike instead. I can always do more photoshoots to save for a new lens.

I am so glad I made the choice to spend the money on a bike for my child. As a parent, we often put aside our own needs for the needs of our child. I know this was more of a want than a need, but 1. It got my kid outside and 2. To see the light in his eyes and the excitement in his voice when he rode that bike, MADE IT ALL WORTH IT!

We bought the bike this afternoon. We came home and he jumped right on. After a few times he finally figured it out!!!! He was so excited! No training wheels either! He is learning how to keep the bike up and balanced all on his own as well. I am so proud of him!!
