July Instagram Wrap Up

So, I have been kind of sucking at the whole writing a blog post and keeping up with this blog over the Summer.

I am hoping now that school is starting back up next week and we are about to get ready for our own school year to begin, things will calm down and I can blog more!

I have a ton I want to blog about, it has just been finding the time.

This July has kept us super busy!

Here is my July Instagram Wrap Up!

A few notes about the above photos ( not all of them)

  • On July 1st, my friends from high school got together to visit. My best friend Stephanie came in town and we have not seen her in person in years! So we all had dinner and got to hang out for awhile. That is the group photo of all of us at the top!
  • We also made lots of cookies this month!
  • We spent Fourth of July with great friends!!

While P was away at camp, I was in charge of keeping his lovie (G) and my husbands lovie ( yep, that pooh is his from the day he was born!) entertained! We went on some fun adventures while the boys were at camp! I took pictures to share with P when he got back from camp so that he knew they were ok!

The others are just us having fun this summer! We have kept ourselves very busy this summer! We have family living with us at the moment ( they have been with us since the middle of May!).

I promise ( to my few followers) I will come back to blogging full time very soon! I have tons of post I need to sit down and write out! We also have several home projects we are about to begin work on and I can not wait to share them! Also, I got my very own Cricut Explorer and can’t wait to share the things I have already made and plan on making!

Love from Texas!

Summer Camp

Today, my husband and my son left for camp. For 5 days. This will be the first time that P has gone to camp for 5 days.

1

The past two years he has gone to camp, but it has been a Friday afternoon- Sunday afternoon.

This time is will be a Friday afternoon-Tuesday afternoon.

5 days.

Without my husband or my son.

2

This is also the first year that my son has left his lovie G at home. He has had his lovie since he was born and has only slept without it one night. Tonight will begin 4 nights without his G.

P is very worried about this and to calm him down I am taking G on all kinds of adventures and taking photos to show P that G is missing him, but still having fun!

3

First stop was getting us some cupcakes from Smallcakes. Our favorite cupcake place in town! I got a lemon drop, Pooh got a wedding cake flavor, and G got chocolate with no frosting ( That is P’s favorite kind too!) I will be posting on my Instagram account: (Wood_Home_Adventures) our adventures while the boys are away! Please feel free to follow!

Dallas Strong

blue

Last night around 9pm my social media accounts started blasting about the shooting that occurred in Dallas, Texas.

I did something I try not to do. I turned on the news. We watched live as reporters reported from around Downtown Dallas. Held our breath when police would run toward gun fire. Held our breath as the reporters and street goers ran for cover.

It was heartbreaking to watch. Our city under attack.

Our police force under attack.

And why?

I get it. #blacklivesmatter but you know what, #ALLLIVESMATTER!

The protest was peaceful. They came, they spoke, they were leaving and a few assholes decided to harm our police force. The same police force that was just out there protecting the people in the protest! Because they were mad at white cops.

Now, because these snipers decided to retaliate against our police force for actions of officers in A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STATE, 5 officers have now lost their life.

When does it stop?

When does all the hate go away?

When will people stop using the race card?

When will we work together instead of against each other?

When will we learn that some people do horrible things, but that does not mean you take it out on others.

Guess what…

YOU get to make your choices daily.

YOU get to decide what your actions are going to be.

YOU get to decide if YOU are going to help make this world a better place!

Tonight we pray for the lives that were lost.

Tonight we pray for their families.

Tonight we pray for this country and for people to stop acting like crazy fools and come together to make this world better for the next generation!

Do you vote?

Doyou

Ever since I was old enough to vote ( which has been awhile ago), I have never voted.

For anything or anyone.

When I was in college and we had election time, one of my teachers told everyone that if they went to the polls and voted they would get extra credit. I think I may of been the only one who did not get that extra credit. And, I was ok with that.

I don’t go to the polls early. I don’t watch any of the debates. I stay out of any political conversations if I can.

I am not one to argue if I can help it. You have your opinion and I have mine. That is how I see it. I don’t want to prove how one person ( or thing) is better than the other and I don’t want to listen to anyone try and push their beliefs for that person ( or thing) on me.

When I turn on the news ( which is hardly ever), it makes me disgusted to see these people fighting and arguing to prove their person is better than the other. Every person out there has made mistakes. YES, some BIGGER than others, but you fighting about it does nothing to help your candidate look better to me.

People tell me ALL…THE… TIME… I should be more aware and pay attention and go vote.

HERE IS THE THING:

Even if I do “pay attention,” I do not always understand what they are talking about. Then, you try and ask someone what this person means or is talking about and somehow or another it turns into them trying to prove to you one of them is better than the other. NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!!!!!

My son is 9 and has started asking questions about the race for president. He asked me who I was voting for and I straight up told him I wasn’t. I told him I did not know enough about either person to vote for either. He then asked me who I liked more. Again, YOU CAN NOT JUST VOTE FOR SOMEONE YOU LIKE. You have to know what they stand for.

He wanted to know how could we find out what each person stands for, so that then we could sit down and make a list and see which ones we agreed on with that person and which ones we did not agree on.

Great project idea!!!!!! Score one for the kid!

If you think about it, it would be very hard to post a question like this and get answers from both sides without someone getting upset and starting something…

Now, how in the world do I go about finding out which person stands for what without causing a riot?

Facebook?

Twitter?

Blog?

Am I being a bad parent for not forcing my child to know every detail about the election? Maybe…

Am I being a bad parent for not making him aware of all the situations these candidate have been involved in? Maybe…

Am I being a bad US citizen for not voting since we have had people die for our right to vote? Maybe… but isn’t it my right as a FREE US citizen not to vote if I don’t want to vote?

I survived 4 kids and VBS!!!

When you are used to only having one child day to day, having 4 children can be a huge wake up call.

Every summer we take my niece and nephew (who live in Houston) for a week! We also have my niece ( along with her mom and dad) living with us till their house is built!

So,

1 niece + 1 niece + 1 nephew + 1 son= a very full and loud house!

Don’t forget the four adults here too!!!!!

Add in VBS (vacation bible school!) and we had a super busy, fun and loud week!

Let’d do a recap shall we? (these are all taken with my lovely iphone, so sorry for some crappy photos!)

Upon arrival each child received a bucket filled with fun goodies for the week. Including these lovely balls that you blow up and bounce… what was I thinking?

2

Another goodie in their buckets were individual puzzles. Each child got a fun puzzle to put together and take apart as many times as they wanted! They each did their puzzles once…

3

First Saturday Hubby and I took the kids to CiCi’s Pizza and then to Dave and Busters. I will say taking four kids out in public is easier when you have two of each and your husband is with you. Divide and conquer!!!

4

How in the world do you expect four kids to behave in Target? Get two buggies with attached seats! One parent take one and the other parent take the other! Score!

5

4 kids + VBS for a week= WORN OUT KIDS BY FRIDAY!!!! You would think…

6

Miss L and her famous look when you ask for a picture! Ain’t she the cutest?!?!?

7

Of course you can have ice cream after dinner! I mean who could say no to those faces?!?!?

8

Summer bike rides are perfect with these kids!

9

When staying with Lelli ( that is me to them) and Unc ( Hubs) of course you get donuts during VBS week!! Two of them rarely get them ever!!!!! Shhh, don’t tell their mom!

10

On days we did not feel like dragging four kids, four towels and a bag of toys to the pool, we played on the slip and slide! Old school fav!

11

Another treat they had in their buckets were these popsicle holders I got from Adabelle’s boutique . The kids loved that their hands did not freeze!!! Plus, they loved their names on them!

12

When staying the week, they are allowed to crash whenever and wherever they want…

13

Firehouse subs for lunch one day! I had several people staring at me like, ” WOW, she has four kids all by herself!” Thankfully, every single one of them behaves for us and stayed in their chair until it was time to go. They all talked together and were very friendly.

14

Time for more arts and crafts! Yep, I plan crafts for the kids to do each time they are here. This year they did sun catchers and a Fathers Day craft!

15

The night before we had to take two home, we finally went swimming!

16

Last day of VBS included bounce houses for two of them and big huge blow up slides for the other two! Then eating lunch and hitting the road to travel to Houston with 4 kids by myself! Thankfully they all ended up passing out for almost 2 hours! Then we spend two days at my moms and then two of the kids and I headed back to Dallas!

17

Every year at VBS I take a photo that is similar to this. Just to show how many children are impacted each year! This year, we had over 1,800 K-4th graders in this room! These kids also raised over $37,000 for new wells to be built in Ghana, Africa!

18

Time to start planning next years activities and bucket ideas for each kid!

Do you have a Summer Bucket List? What are some of your favorite Summer activities?!?

Makeup: Do you wear it?!

I do and I don’t.

I am not a huge fan of wearing makeup. I have always felt like it can be too much and it is not showing who you really are.

I also am not a fan of the way it makes my face feel. Like it is covered in a layer of chemicals. Granted, I know there is makeup out there that is supposed to be the best of the best, no harsh chemicals. Then again, those are the ones that are so expensive I would not even touch the stuff to begin with!

For the most part when I do wear makeup, being most of the time when I go out with my husband or we are going somewhere nice, I have always worn Covergirl brand. I usually do the foundation/base, eyeshadow, eye liner, mascara, blush and lipgloss.

Then times changed and I learned even how to contour. Still didn’t see a need for all those layers, but it was fine to learn a new way and try it out.

Here recently, I had not purchased any restock on makeup. I honestly did not and do not see the point. I like my face without the layers. I like the way my face feels fresh and clean without all of the makeup on there.

I try explaining this to my awesome husband as well, but sometimes he just wants me to wear it, so I do.

Since I had refused to purchase any makeup lately he took me and bought me makeup.

  1. When it comes to spending money on myself, I already have a hard time with that.
  2. MAKE UP CAN BE EXPENSIVE!!!!

I am used to buying my Covergirl makeup. He told me he wanted me to buy decent makeup, so he took me to Sephora. I struggled. I mean come on! Foundation $50????? For real?  Also, names of makeup can be a little weird. Blush called Orgasm….. um, 9 year old son who is standing next to me please cover your ears! Of course Hubs laughs, but me, well I have already been uncomfortable since we walked in, why not make it a little more?!?!?!

I ended up with foundation, blush ( got a free lipgloss with this one! SCORE!) , mascara and lipstick ( which I have never worn before!). I already have eyeliner, but don’t wear it much.

Ok, so this first picture is myself, sans makeup.

4

Ok, this 2nd one is a little base and some mascara.

2

This one has base, mascara, blush and lipstick.

1

This one is the full get up.

5

You can see the different ones. My favorite is without. Hubs loves the one with makeup but no eyeliner. He thinks it is too much.

Do you wear makeup? What are your favorite brands? Or do you, like me, enjoy being natural-makeup free?!?

Please let me know in the comments below.

16 days

It has been 16 days since my last post.

That is according to my stats log.

Trust me, I have wanted to post. I even have some blog topics I want to sit down and blog about.

Life has just been crazy and it is about to get crazier.

Tomorrow, my sister and her twins ( L and N) come in to visit. However, my sister will leave Saturday morning and the twins are staying here for a full week! Did I mention my sister in law, brother in law and niece are also living with us at the moment. Yeah full house!

We have VBS starting next week and I will be taking and handling the four kids. This should be fun but I am already exhausted thinking about everything I have planned for the week.

I need a nap.

Summer is in full force. We have been to the pool already several times. Had our first summer library trip. The kids ( my son P and my niece K) started a reading log to turn in for prizes during the summer.

P is also on a new thing this summer. We started a list of things he has to do every day before he is allowed any electronic time. Needless to say, he was not happy about it when we discussed it. I have noticed though he has done a great job with it and has spent more time reading and playing outdoors than on his ipad! Which is what this mom was hoping for!

I have some new post coming soon. It is just hard to sit down and actually type them up. I only have the one computer and it is not always easy to sit at the desk and write when we have a house full of people and the computer is in the living room.

Stay tuned though, I promise I will get back to writing for those few followers.

Upcoming blog post to be on the look out for:

  • Makeup: Do you wear it?
  • Summer Bucket List
  • I Don’t Vote ( like ever)
  • I survived 4 kids and VBS

Which one do you think will be the most interesting one to read?
